SERGER: Stitch and Flip Reversible Table Runner
Make a decorative table runner with different “themes” on each side. The choice of fabrics determines the “theme” of the runner. Learn the Flip and Stitch technique. Our sample is patriotic on one side and Halloween on the other. What fun and it goes together so quickly on your serger.
Student Supply List:
Fabric: Four or Five fabrics for each side = 8-10 fabrics cut into 2 ½” strips- (approximately ¼ yd each)
OR Jelly Roll strips –need 2 of each fabric (5 fabrics on one side makes a 48” table runner.)
½ yd Quilter’s flannel or 1 yd muslin
Thread: 1 spool All purpose thread to match fabric
3 spools serger thread
2 spools heavy wt serger thread for outside edging ( Filaine, !/8” ribbon floss, Décor, 12 wt cotton )
Needles: Serger needles size 90/14
Scissors, pins and general sewing supplies
Rotary Cutter and mat
Serger accessories such as tweezers, thread caps and screw drivers
Serger caddy
Other helpful, but not required supplies or tools: Wonder clips
Pre-class preparations:
1. Prewash your fabric and flannel or muslin as you would care for the finished runner because fabrics,
especially the flannel, can shrink with the first wash.
2. Press and cut fabrics into 2 ½” strips. 2 strips of each fabric.
3. Press and cut flannel or muslin into 2 ½“ strips. You will need approximately ten of 40” strips or the
equivalent.
4. Bring scraps and strips to class. Consider what to use as the center square.
